Princess Ida (Gilbert and Sullivan)
Project type
Operetta
Date
May 2016
Location
New York City
Role
Guron
In the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players' (NYGASP) vibrant production of Princess Ida, Seph Stanek took on the role of Guron, one of King Gama's boisterous warrior sons. The performances were held at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts on May 21 and 22, 2016.
Princess Ida is a comic operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan that playfully examines themes of feminism and gender roles through its witty libretto and musical charm. Guron, alongside his brothers Arac and Scynthius, provides much of the production’s physical comedy and bravado as the trio attempts to reclaim Princess Ida from her women’s university, Castle Adamant.
Seph’s portrayal of Guron was marked by dynamic energy and sharp comedic timing, contributing to NYGASP’s lively and modern interpretation of this rarely performed Gilbert and Sullivan gem. His performance was both spirited and technically sound, solidifying his reputation as a versatile operatic performer and a fixture in New York’s classical music scene.
