Role
Men's Chorus, Dead Ancestor
Seph Stanek performed in the men’s chorus for Ruddigore, a beloved Gilbert & Sullivan operetta known for its chillingly clever second act—the hall of ancestor portraits. Produced by the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players (NYGASP), the globally recognized custodians of the G&S canon, this staging of Ruddigore is especially famous for its magical stagecraft: an unforgettable moment where painted ancestors come to life, stepping out of their ornate frames to sing, scheme, and haunt the audience.
Participating in this theatrical illusion—as the ancestors reanimate, one by one—was a highlight of Seph’s artistic journey. As part of the NYGASP men’s chorus, he contributed to the rich harmonies and intricate vocal lines that define Ruddigore’s lush score, while also bringing energy and life to the dramatic ensemble scenes.
This production of Ruddigore celebrated the enduring legacy of Gilbert & Sullivan’s work while thrilling modern audiences with a moment of pure stage magic. Seph’s experience in the men’s chorus allowed him to be part of something larger than life—where art, music, and storytelling fused into a spectacle that left audiences gasping in awe.
