In the New York Musical Theatre Festival’s acclaimed production of Temple of the Souls, Seph Stanek took on the role of Nemesio, the privileged and volatile nephew of Don Severo. Set in 16th-century Puerto Rico, this original musical intertwines forbidden love with the brutal history of Spanish colonization and the Taíno people's resistance.
Nemesio, betrothed to his cousin Amada, becomes an antagonist driven by entitlement and jealousy. His character embodies the oppressive colonial mindset, ultimately leading to tragic consequences. Seph's portrayal added depth to Nemesio, highlighting the complexities of power and internal conflict within the colonial hierarchy.
This production was a profound exploration of cultural identity, love, and resistance, with Seph's performance contributing significantly to its emotional impact.
