HOW TO FIND YOUR VOCAL FACH: ONLINE & 100% FREE FOR ALL SINGERS
Find Your Vocal Fach — And Discover What It Really Means for Your Voice

“Fach” (pronounced "fawk") is a voice-classification system that helps singers understand not just their range, but the color, weight, comfort zone, and repertoire their voice is best suited for. Even though the fach system comes from opera, its insights apply to every singer: pop, musical theatre, rock, jazz, R&B, and beyond.
This quick quiz is designed to help you explore where your voice may belong in the fach spectrum. And while it’s surprisingly accurate for an online assessment, no quiz can replace the clarity that comes from working one-on-one with a qualified vocal coach. Consider this a smart starting point, not a final label, as you continue learning about your voice.
How the Vocal Fach Quiz Works
1. Answer a few questions.
You'll be asked about your comfort raqnge, tone quality, and how your voice behaves.
Get your likely fach.
See whether you lean lyric, dramatic, coloratura, or another category within your voice type.
3. Learn what it means for your voice.
We'll explain what fits your voice best, and how you can use your fach to plan smarter toward your vocal goals.
How Knowing Your Vocal Fach Can Help Develop Your Singing
Once you know your fach, you can combine it with your vocal range to get your true voice type.
For example:
-
A singer with a tenor range and a lyric fach becomes a Lyric Tenor.
-
A soprano with agility and warmth might be a Coloratura Soprano.
This system gives us a more precise idea of how your voice moves, carries power, and blends — not just how high or low you can sing.

Meet the Voice Coach Behind This Quiz
Hi — I’m Seph Stanek, Founder of Tour de Fierce® and a vocal coach to artists who perform everywhere from Broadway stages to international arenas.
I created this quiz because most singers don't even know that the fach classification system exists in the first place, and I believe it limits their growth as artists. A true vocal fach system helps you choose songs that fit, develop your voice safely, and discover new notes in your range you didn’t know you had.
My approach isn’t about “one-size-fits-all” vocal tricks.
It’s about understanding your unique instrument — and building technique around it.
If you ever want a personalized fach assessment or coaching tailored to your goals, I’d love to help.

Vocal Fach FAQs
FAQ 1 – What is a vocal fach?
“Fach” is a classical system for classifying voices. Instead of just looking at vocal range, it considers color, weight, comfort zone (tessitura), and how your voice behaves in real music. That’s how we get labels like Lyric Tenor, Dramatic Soprano, Coloratura Mezzo, etc.
FAQ 2 – Do I have to sing opera for fach to matter?
No. Fach comes from the opera world, but the concepts apply to every singer — pop, musical theatre, worship, R&B, jazz, you name it. Knowing your likely fach helps you pick safer, smarter repertoire in any style.
FAQ 3 – How accurate is this vocal fach quiz?
This quiz is carefully designed and far more thoughtful than the usual “what kind of singer are you?” clickbait. That said, it’s still an online quiz. It can point you toward a likely fach family, but real fach classification happens when a trained vocal coach listens to you over time, not in 60 seconds.
FAQ 4 – Can my fach change as I get older?
Yes. Voices, especially heavier or more dramatic ones, often take time to settle. Hormones, training, health, and age all play a role. If you’re younger or newer to singing, treat this result as a starting point, not a final label.
FAQ 5 – I’m a belter / pop singer. Why should I care about fach?
Even if you spend your life belting pop songs, your voice still has a natural setup: how thick or light the folds are, how easily you move, how your sound carries. Fach language gives us a more precise way to talk about that, so we can choose songs and keys that respect your instrument instead of fighting it.
FAQ 6 – What if my quiz result doesn’t feel right?
That’s completely okay. No quiz can account for every nuance. If your result doesn’t resonate, use it as a prompt to get curious: Which parts feel true? Which don’t? The best next step is to work one-on-one with a coach who can hear you and give tailored feedback.
FAQ 7 – How do I combine my fach result with my vocal range?
Your range tells us how high and low you can sing. Your fach tells us how your voice behaves. Put them together and you get a more accurate voice type — for example, a tenor-range singer with a lyric fach becomes a Lyric Tenor; a soprano-range singer with a coloratura fach becomes a Coloratura Soprano.
